// About Jedain
Archery advice from the shooting line.
Jedain Aaron learns just about everything: he juggles, draws, builds websites and plays several instruments. He served in the US Marine Corps infantry from 2010 to 2014 as a machine gunner, including a deployment to Afghanistan, so firearms were second nature long before bows.
He wanted something he could practice anywhere, not just at a range, and a backyard made archery possible. His first bow, in July 2024, was a 45 lb Sanlida Royal X8, and he tried to figure it out without watching a single video. He burned his arm with no arm guard, dry-fired the bow at the range, and the first time he tried to pull 45 pounds he got maybe three shots in before he was done. He trained with a resistance band until he could pull it.
Today he shoots on a backyard range in Washington State and at an indoor range when it rains. His advice is the advice he’d give a friend at the range: start on a lighter bow, get fitted at a shop, and practice the basics until they’re automatic. He reviews gear he owns from his own shooting; everything else is researched from maker specs and official sources, and says so.
His goal is a deer or a turkey, taken with his own bow and brought home to eat, and every post is written to get readers shooting well with fewer mistakes than he made.
